This fun #brightlyathome activity was created by one of our great instructors, Megan Curts.
Ice Cream Dough (edible!)
Here are the supplies you need:
-
1 can of frosting
-
3 cups of powdered sugar
-
food coloring
-
salt ( if you’d like your kiddos NOT to eat it! Omit this ingredient if you’re good with the sugar buzzzzzzz)
Empty the can of frosting into a bowl, and incrementally mix in the powdered sugar. Mix together until a dough forms. Keep adding in powdered sugar until the dough is no longer super sticky. Add drops of food coloring to make the dough look like your artist’s favorite flavor. Mix in some salt to make it taste terrible! This will prevent kiddos from chomping on this dough!
What’s cool about this ice cream dough is that it scoops, rolls, and pulls apart like real ice-cream! Set out bowls and scoops, and kids can have a fun time creating their own ice cream parlor. (Store the dough in a zip-top bag in the refrigerator. Allow the dough to come back to room temperature before playing a second time.)
Brightly Tips:
-
You can absolutely make this 100% edible by omitting the salt & contact solution. But! Do you reaaaalllllly want your kids to be taking bite after bite of sugar-infused cake icing? HARD PASS unless they are at grandma’s! That’s why we add the salt.
-
Using cardboard, paper, & pom-poms, your artists could create fun toppings for their sundaes.
-
Include some imaginative play! Have your artists take orders and whip up creations for “customers.” Megan’s boys pretended to serve treats to all their action figures!
-
We love to do dough of any kind on a tray or cookie sheet to make clean up a cinch!
We’d love to see your ice cream dough creations! Share photos on social media using #brightlyathome.
